John Casteen IV
Fern Hill Furniture Works

Jewelry & furniture | Sherman | McConnell | Casteen | Farm tables

Les Yeux du Monde is pleased to carry the furniture of John Casteen IV. Casteen founded Fern Hill Furniture Works in 1997 to provide designer- built custom and limited-production fine furnishings for the home. Most of his original designs are rooted in familiar styles—Shenandoah vernacular, Scandinavian, Eastlake—and incorporate aesthetic and practical revisions that address those styles in the context of the modern.

Environmentally conscientious, the majority of Casteen’s work is done in solid hard- and softwood lumber, grown and processed locally. If using exotic lumber, he employs premium veneers as an environmentally sound alternative to solid-wood panels; this technique tempers the consumption of scarce resources, lowers the client's cost, and makes possible many elements of design that would be impossible or irresponsible in solid lumber.
